Ways of helping the Parish
Your weekly offering is usually put in the Offertory plate, but if you want to help the Parish, there are more effective ways: -
The Gift Aid Scheme-
Many people are taxpayers and are able to through this scheme to increase the value of their donation. For example, on a gift of £20, the Church can reclaim the £5.60 of tax paid. That is effectively a contribution of a further 28% to Church income from the government at no extra cost to the donor!
If you give say £5 per week to the Church. Multiply that by 52 weeks = £260. Now add to that the 28p to every pound you have given = £72.80. Therefore, the total given to the Church is £332.80. This is good news for the Church, our Parish and all the projects we, as a Parish, want to support in the years to come.
How does the Gift Aid Scheme work?
You must sign a Gift Aid Declaration. This remains in force until you decide to cancel. You can cancel the Declaration at any time by writing to the Parish's Gift Aid Officer.
You must be paying Income tax and/or capital gains tax at least equal to the tax reclaimed by the Gift Aid Scheme.
All donations must be recorded by the Church so as to prove that monies have been received.
Payment into the Gift Aid Scheme can be either by weekly or monthly envelope or Standing Order or 'one-off' envelopes. You choose the method, which best suits you.
It really is as simple as that.
